PEACE II Programme
The PEACE Programme was established in 1995 to promote cross-border peace and reconciliation and was targeted at the Border Counties and Northern Ireland. A second programme was established from 2000-2004 with a Structural Funds budget of €500 million. The Programme was subsequently extended until 2006 with an extra €144 million of Structural Funds support.
The Programme comprised of five Sub-Programmes (Priorities), each of which contained a number of distinct Measures. The ESF provided funding in support of seven Measures across three of the Sub-Programmes.
The overall objective of the Programme was to provide a strategic framework to support cross-border co-operation strategies and projects for a variety of sectors and organisations. PEACE II was managed by the Special EU Programmes Body - http://www.seupb.org/, which was established under the Good Friday Agreement.
